“The main thing, of course, always is the fact that there is only one of you in the world, just one, and if that is not fulfilled then something has been lost. Ambition is not enough; necessity is everything. It is through this that the legends of the soul’s journey are retold with all their tragedy and their bitterness and sweetness of living. It is at this point that the sweep of life catches up with the mere personality of the performer, and while the individual becomes greater, the personal becomes less personal. And there is grace. I mean the grace resulting from faith…faith in life, faith in love, in people, in the act of dancing. All this is necessary to any performance in life which is magnetic, powerful, rich in meaning.” – Martha Graham
Hello Dancers –
We are about to begin our first full week of dance classes, I hope you have been stretching and reviewing across the floor combinations from jazz classes!
Class Schedules –
As we discussed on Friday with everyone, we are still in the process of leveling the classes so that everyone can be in the correct level and we can avoid classes that are simply too large. I will be posting on my blog and sending a remind text out this evening to let you know what class you have on Monday 8/11/14 so that you can bring proper dance clothes for class.
5th period –
Reminder that all Dance Majors have JAZZ for 5th period Monday 8/11/14, even if you have ballet during your regular class. We will keep you posted on 5th period schedule as well.
Regular Homeroom Schedule (after 1st block) on Monday 8/11/14. Go to your 1st period class at 8:10 am and Homeroom will be after 1st period.
Essential Questions for the Week –
I will be posting the three questions for the week on my blog (either Monday, Tuesday, Friday or Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – depending on your class schedule and what days you have Jazz, and what Fridays you have either Mr. Davis of myself for class). This will all be more clear this week as we get the schedule leveled out. For the first six weeks, you will be using the Dance Composition Basics books that are located in the studio.
I will begin posting my EQs once we have the scheduling/groups finalized. Getting the questions written out in advance will help save time in class and you can just focus on using the textbook to define the terms and your answer will be related to the terms you define each day.
Technique Focus for the Week –
Similar to last week, the focus of classes will be on endurance, strength, flexibility, coordination, technical alignment and musicality. I am looking to see what type of dancers you are. Remember to always do your best in class, every day.
